We love to cook and eat almost as much as we love to sleep. We also share an obsession with baking sourdough bread. So the moment we heard that Flourist was milling fresh flour here in Vancouver, we were lining up to get our hands on some.

In addition to flour, Flourist offers an amazing selection of dried goods (chickpeas, lentils, quinoa to name a few) and their website and newsletters offer some of the best recipe ideas we've tasted.

Shira McDermott and Janna Bishop (the lovely, talented women behind Flourist) were happy to have us feature their recipes in this ongoing journal post that we will update with our favourites as we try them. This is our effort to help you achieve your 2019 goals of cooking more and eating better. We hope you enjoy Flourist’s products and recipes as much as we do!

Coming up with weeknight meal ideas is our biggest hurdle when it comes to cooking at home and keeping things healthy.  We've added a couple of our favourite recommendations for quick dinners or dishes you can cook ahead and keep in the fridge.

The hearty winter French lentil salad is the perfect dish to make Sunday night to have in the fridge for lunches and dinners all week long.

Cozy Soup

Nothing is better to keep on hand ready to warm up at a moments notice than soup.  This one would be even better paired with some sourdough.

Anything with the word rosé in it grabs our attention.  Although no actual rosé is used in the making of this farro dish, we are obsessed with how yummy this is.

Lentil Soup

Hearty soups are our favourite winter treat.  Easy to make ahead of time and store in the freezer until you need them. This Tomato Lentil Soup is a real treat.

Sourdough

Soup needs sourdough.  It turns a warm, comforting treat into a hearty meal.  As mentioned above, sourdough made with Flourist’s flours are the best there is, and this is an excellent recipe to hone your bread baking skills with.

Grain Hummus

Once your sourdough is out of the oven, take it to the next level with this hummus recipe.  Insider tip - if you are new to bread making and still a little self conscious, adding a spread as delicious as this one will hide any manner of flaws and wow all your friends!

Hope you enjoy these recipes as much as we do. We would love to know - which recipes are inspiring you to cook more at home?
