In the age of maximum self-care, my bath rituals are embarrassingly minimal, and I can’t even pin that on having a newborn. Anyone who knows about my lack of a sleep hygiene routine will sense a bit of a pattern here.
I’m also a shower-taker, as opposed to a bath maven, so my argument is that there are way more opportunities for luscious bath products when you actually take baths. Ok, enough defense of my sad state of bath affairs, I will just tell you what I do use.
I think it was about a year ago that all three of us at Flax Home discovered shampoo and conditioner bars. We get them from Unwrapped Life, a fellow Canadian company run by a female entrepreneur, and I will not go back to bottles of shampoo or conditioner. I love the amount of plastic waste we (my husband uses these bars too) have eliminated, and my hair feels so good.
When I was younger, I went through a whole Bath & Body Works phase (cheap and cheerful), but I’m happy to have transitioned to more natural, soothing scented bath products. My go-to soap is Woodlot’s soap bar in the Flora scent. It feels really hydrating and luxurious, also it smells delightful. I use our Flax Home Bath Towel coming out of the shower and moisturize with Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter.
Shocker - I have been known to fall asleep with my makeup on, more than I care to admit. However, in my advancing age (*cough*) and an attempt to combat the super tired mom look, I have definitely started to pay more attention to my face.
Once a Clinique Three Step Skincare System enthusiast, I have tried many, many face washes and moisturizers. I tend to switch it up so that I don’t get bored and less motivated to wash my face. I got on the oil cleanser train and really like it, but only just learned about double cleansing (more on that in a second).
We are an eye cream household, and I currently use Tatcha Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream. I also love the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream - it’s a great face moisturizer that’s light but gives complete coverage.
Thanks to a recent Sephora sale, I decided to try Tata Harper’s Daily Essentials Kit, taking me from a two-step face routine to SEVEN steps. There’s the double cleanse, where I use our Flax Home Wash Cloth to remove the oil cleanser before the gentle exfoliating cleanser. That's followed by an essence, a serum, moisturizer and face oil. I cannot tell you what they’re all for, but surprisingly, I find it soothing to go through all the steps and it doesn’t take nearly as long as I expected. It’s a nice quiet few minutes I get to start and end my day, and I think my face is happy that I’m finally looking after it properly.
